Mr Turley's Critique

It was my great pleasure to judge on the two days and I thank the committee and members for giving me such a great time on my 1st visit to Australia.

The whole show experience over there is quite different, starting with the venue which was a purpose built outdoor showground with loads of space, closely cut grass, great facilities and floodlights.

I was well supported by very good ring stewards and this helped make my job very easy.

Next the exhibitors all turned out in their best dog showing clothes being very polite and taking all decisions with good grace and sportsmanship.

Finally the most important thing of all, the dogs themselves. All exhibits were brought to the ring in tip-top condition. The general quality was excellent, teeth were large and white with most possessing good canines. Nearly all dogs had good fronts and most moved reasonably well. I paid particular attention to short coupling and level toplines as I always do and this quite often helped form my final opinion. I was also impressed with pigment particularly with most red dogs which had the deep red that I like.

Best in Show was Gr. Ch. Castlebar Crown Jester. This pied dog is a fine example in the class of some of my favourite dogs of all time, the likes of Ch. Silver Bomber, Ch. Domino Flashy Lad and Belnite Dark Huntsman. Lovely head and cracking front, superb profile and great on the move even though as I heard later that he had only just recovered from a serious accident. Iím sure this dog would be a top winning dog in any country.

Reserve in Show was NZ. Ch. Warmaster Double Shot. This pied bitch was very strong which I like in a bitch. Powerful head and good front again with superb topline and coupling, also moved well.
