Championship Show Report

1 May 2010

Mrs Griet Coetzer - Zeracious (R.S.A.)

I would like to thank the Committee of the Staffordshire Club of Queensland for the invitation to judge at  their Championship Show as well as all the exhibitors who brought their dogs to show under me. I had a lovely time and enjoyed having such big classes to go through - putting my hands on some really good, well turned out Staffords and in many of the classes, any of the first three placed could swop places on another day.

I do believe the bitches (in general) were of better quality and depth today.

In all honesty I was quite taken by discovering way too many converging canines. I deliberately tried to separate the good mouths from the bad mouths before even looking further. Sadly I had to eliminate a few (otherwise) good specimen purely on this fault. Winning with converging canine’s should not be taken as an approval by breeders or exhibitors that their animals are an asset to the breed, it merely suggest such judge ignorant or careless. I also think you need to be mindful of the amount of light brown

eyes within the breed. It’s not preferred, foreign and spoils a dog’s expression. Breeders and exhibitors need to realise that the responsibility starts (and ends) within their own values. Severe faults will not go away without being ruthless in one’s breeding program.

Congratulations to all the winning staffords (and handlers) and for the less fortunate, their is always another show and another judge’s opinion.

Apart from a few baby puppies who hopefully will still ‘drop-down’, all males were entire. All placed dogs (in my opinion) also had acceptable dentition and faired well on movement, moving with a level topline and sufficient drive and reach, parallel viewed from front and back unless otherwise mentioned.

Baby Puppy Dog (14)

1st Frazer’s Highbourne Bureaucracy (AI)

#12

BPIS

One well trained, handsome baby puppy with irresistible ring

presence and expression. Strong muzzle and head piece with

round eyes and tidy, small rose ears placed high. Balanced -

upstanding. His shoulders clean, with straight round bone,

strong pasterns and feet tight. Short in coupling, muscled

hindquarter, well let down. Moved on a loose lead with

confidence, smooth and extended. If anything, I would’ve

preferred a darker eye and better tail shape. Full of promise.

2nd Ross & Avery’s Swanky To Hot To Handle

#1

Strong puppy with a chiselled head, broad scull, strong muzzle

and pronounced stop, round eyes and rose ears (which he

needs to grow into). Chest deep and well ribbed up. Strong

round bone and fair topline. Tail set a little on the high side.

Stacked well but needs confidence and tuck-up viewed from

above.

3rd Stanley’s Stanbury Strike Havoc (AI)

#7

This puppy had enough strength in head, stop and width in

muzzle. Lips a little padded. Ears a little big at the moment, but

rose shaped. His front clean and straight. Well ribbed, can be

shorter in loin. I would’ve liked a little more angulation in his

hindquarter. Needs confidence.

4th Zammit’s Mokuishla Hammertime #14

5th Faithful’s Ourknights Desert Storm #2

Minor Puppy Dog (6)

1st Long’s Wyreema Son Of Anarchy

#16

OMPIS

This puppy had a strong deep skull. Distinct stop and rose ears

with good, keen expression. Broad in front with straight legs.

Strong pasterns and feet. Well tucked-up with topline level and

shown in good condition. However, I would’ve liked a stronger

underjaw and more width of ham. Pump handle tail.

2nd Stephen’s Vanstaff Guiness Draught

#19

Wide strong head piece, clean of excess flesh, eyes dark and ears

rose. Clean shoulders, straight front with ample bone. A little

tight in front. Well angulated in hindquarter. Pump handle tail set

on low. Lost out on fitness.

3rd Bischof’s Battalion Black Bomber

#15

This young dog has a different expression to the first and second.

Skull not as deep. Eyes not as dark and round. Ears a little big

at the base and could have thinner leathers. Front legs strong,

brisket deep - a bit longer in loin and tail set on high, but pumphandle.

Puppy Dog (9)

1st Poelstra’s Awstruk Valiant Digger (AI)

#29

OPIS

A classy, clean, neat, well-developed, balanced young dog with

strong head and strong under jaw, pronounced dome and

cheek muscles. Small rose ears and brown eyes, straight well

boned front with strong rear to match. Tight feet and strong

pasterns. Strong well developed hindquarter. Tail well set on. A

promising young dog - handled well.

2nd Edwards’ Sookalott Galileo

#26

Strong deep through head, dark eyes and strong muzzle. A bit

lippy. Ears could be tidier. Strong round bone all round. Front

a little tight. Topline level with strong second thigh. Tail set on

low. Parallel front and back.

3rd Doorakers’ Taino Hawkeye

#24

Not quite the same depth in head to 1st and 2nd, yet clean.

Ears rose and small. Brisket deep with pronounced sternum,

legs straight. Pasterns not as strong as first. Body well muscled

and in good condition. Top-line slightly roached. Tail shape

not always pump-handle, set on low. Would’ve preferred more

angulation and second thigh development in hindquarter.

Junior Dog (8)

1st Faithful’s Ourknights Check Mate

# 30

OJIS

A top-size dog with lots of daylight. Strong, clean well

proportioned, chiselled head, deep, small rose ears, brown eyes

with good pigmentation around eyes and lips, strong neck and

good clean shoulder, ample round bone and straight front.

Pasterns could be stronger. Level top line and strong back end.

Needs substance.

2nd Austin-Cleary’s Tykabul Show Your Colours

#31

Head shape of good proportions, small rose ears. Muzzle could

be cleaner, less fleshy. Eyes light brown. Front clean and strong

bone, but tight. Well tucked up. Tail, set on high and lacking in

traditional pump-handle shape.

3rd Douglas’ Willowra Hugo Boss

#32

Head strong. Ears a little bigger with thicker leathers. Good

pigmentation. Front clean and well muscled up. Round bone and

strong pasterns. Feet tight. Well balanced body. Level topline.

Intermediate Dog (10)

1st Coulson’s Brohez Archibald Da Rogue

OIIS

Clean in head, pronounced stop and small rose ears with keen

expression. Brown eyes a bit too light for me. Strong neck flowing

into laid back shoulders. Pasterns strong, slightly slanting with

neat feet. Fit, muscled body and shown in good condition. Well

tucked-up. Short in loin, strong bone, well developed hind

quarters and shiny, close, smooth coat. Pump handle tail, carriage

low set. Handled well.

2nd Ross’ Swanky Robert De Brus

#41

Head deep with pronounced dome and cheek muscles. Small

rose ears. Muscled, clean shoulders matching rear, front legs

strong and straight. Well set apart. Pronounced sternum.

Strong inner thighs with lots of muscle definition. Showed with

confidence.

3rd Haley’s Bomchassa Probii

#43

Lost out to first and second on quality of head and expression.

Ears half pricked and on the strong side. Muscled neck sloping

into a clean front, with lean muscle and good angulation. Legs

of good bone, strong pasterns and tidy feet. Body short. Hind

strong with well developed second thigh and muscled up. Pump

handle tail.

the big side. Well developed cheek muscles. Eyes could be darker.

slightly turning out and tight toes. Pump handle tail, of medium

length, set on low. Hocks well let down.

2nd Abbott’s Gemra Urban Ace

#50

This dog didn’t quite have the definition or depth in skull that

I would’ve liked, but it’s head was strong, muzzle of good

proportion and rose ears. Brown eyes, small. Front a little tight.

Legs strong. Hindquarter could have more development in

second thigh. Hocks well let down, tail set on low.

3rd Edwards’ CH Sommoy Dark And Stormy

#51

Similar to my second placed in many ways. Just a bit more

‘bossy’. Rose ears bigger. Brisket a bit too deep. Otherwise strong,

muscular - a lot of dog.

Australian Bred Dog (12)

and round eyes - with keen expression. Muzzle clean, in good

proportion to his skull and with great strength. Small neat ears

placed high. Neck strong. Front straight, clean and of good bone.

move. Short in coupling and well tucked up.

Alert. Head deep through with strong, clean muzzle and dome,

rose ears - would’ve liked a little darker eyes but of good shape.

Clean shoulders, well laid back. Upstanding with strong bone.

pump-handle tail. Well angulated in rear and developed second

thigh. Handled with ease.

A compact bitch with a strong head, dark round eyes and good

pigmentation. Needs to grow into her ears. Muzzle strong with

strong under jaw. Clean front, deep in brisket and well ribbedup

with a lot of substance. Not as tucked up as I would’ve liked

however balanced. Strong hindquarters. Moved well on day but

lacked confidence.

2nd Heselden’s Wiltshire Poetic Justice

#94

Her head with deep stop and strong muzzle. Her ears were a

little heavy - hopefully she’ll grow into them. Would’ve preferred

darker eyes. Straight broad front. Neat feet and tight toes.

Hindquarter a bit too elongated at the moment - extended

second thigh. Tail carriage set on high but carried it pump

handle. She moved well considering her lack of confidence.

3rd Webb’s Webwild Black Wisows Brew

Not the strength in head as the first two but she stood square.

Her front is clean and strong, pasterns strong with tight feet. Her

body well ribbed up with good hind angulation. Hocks well let
